The Dever Society AGM 2026
The Dever Society’s 2026 AGM took place on Monday 27th April at 7.30pm at the Warren Centre, Micheldever Station SO21 3AR.
After the formal business, there was a fascinating panel discussion about developments on Micheldever new town, Popham ‘garden village’, Popham ‘Logistics Park’ and the council’s new local plan. Panel members included Cllr Martin Tod (Leader, Winchester City Council), Cllr Jackie Porter (Cabinet member for Place and Local Plan, Winchester City Council) and Cllr Caroline Horrill, city councillor for Wonston and Micheldever and leader of the Conservative group on Winchester City Council.
Statements were read out from Danny Chambers MP and Basingstoke Cllr Andy Konieczko (Cabinet member for strategic planning and infrastructure, who were unable to attend the meeting.
During questions there was considerable unease about the Popham Logistic Park planning application and not only its impact on the environment and water, and its size (it can be seen from Winchester), but critically its significant impact on the highways and the A33 in particular (potentially 20,000 vehicle movements a day, which needed to be put in the context of the 3,500 vehicles planned for in the current redevelopment of M3 junction 9). Members and guests were asked to comment on the Popham Logistic Park plans by the closing date of 22nd May.
