Announcement of the Category Winners of our Spring Photography Competition 2021

Congratulations to the category winners!

We are delighted to announce the category winners for the Dever Society Spring Photography Competition 2021.

Landscape category

The winner of the Landscape Category is Femke van Kempen-Muurling with “A Little Ray of Sunshine.”

I love to go for a walk in the ‘golden hour’, the hour before sunset because everything gets such a beautiful glow/color. In this picture you can see the sun reflect on the pretty white fluffy ‘plants’ that I still don’t know the name of. This picture shows how I feel when I’m walking in and around Brown Candover. So blessed to being able to enjoy this place!

Trees category

The winner of the Trees category is Anna Parker with “Grow Your Own in Lockdown.”

We picked up an acorn in the winter and popped it in the acorn vase at the start of the winter lockdown, by spring and the recent end of lockdown this is how well it was doing (better than the humans!).

Wildlife category

The winner of the Wildlife category is Rachel Parker with “Sleepy Tawny Owl.”

Rachel took her photo in our very own Micheldever Woods while walking her dog.

Thanks to everyone who entered the competition

Photos were judged on composition and technical quality.

We received some excellent entries and would like to award commendations to four additional entries.

“Field of Flints” by Russell Smart, taken a short detour from the South Downs Way towards Kilmeston.

We found this recently planted field on a beautiful early Spring Day. The exceptionally high level of flints gave the field an unusual grainy texture.

“If You Go Down to the Woods today” by Anna Parker.

Our toddler adores little woodland paths and hunting for bees and butterflies! Finding a quiet woodland without hoards of people is an absolute dream for him, me and my camera!

“Queen of the Woods” by Brian Cooper, a sparrowhawk seen during a walk in Winnall Moors, Winchester

“Hitching a Ride” by Sheila Anne Williams, taken in Winnall Moors, Winchester.

I spent the morning watching these delightful signets take turns to ride on mother swan’s back, some more eager than others!
